In Interior Design, various elements are combined to bring out well designed and well crafted interior environments that are not only aesthetically appealing but are liveable. One of these elements is the use of wallpapers on the walls for decoration.
The use of wallpapers in interior walls goes as far as the 17th century. During that period, just as today, wallpapers were used to cover walls while at the same time acting as a decorative element for interior walls. Decorative wallpapers are affordable methods clients could adopt to cover their interior walls.
In the beginnings, (about 17th-18th century), wallpapers featured scenes of landscapes rather than patterns. This however changed in the 20th century when patterned wallpapers emerged and became a norm of interior wall finishing for homes. Evolution of this element continued and in the mid of the 20th century, wallpapers lost their popularity to wall painting. To this day, wall painting still holds popularity over wallpapers.
Having lost their popularity and humans having always reacted in a different way to 3-dimensional objects, interior designers and manufactures; motivated by the desire to sell their wallpapers invested resources in research and the design of 3D wallpapers that bring out a real-life feeling in interior walls. Their research and designs were made easy with the advancements in technology such as the use of computers installed with graphic design and 3D animation programs. This resulted in traditional wallpapers undergoing a further metamorphosis of some sort; from the use of patterns to now adorning scenes and objects that bring out a 3D effect into interior environments that was missing before. It, therefore, goes without mentioning that 3D wallpapers are currently trending with regards to using wallpapers on interior walls.
Further, interior designers and manufacturers have been able to add more features to traditional wallpapers. These features include waterproofing capabilities, for lighting purposes using illuminating materials among others.
Besides giving interior spaces that real-life touch, 3D wallpapers play other roles such as they could make a room look bigger or a wall extended. Others have the illusion effect that makes a wall appear as if it is falling, moving inside, a bottomless pit, a journey in space, a black hole in space, a tunnel extending in the living room, a garden I the living room among others.
Although wallpapers did lose their popularity to wall paints, they still give interior walls that elegant finish with their patterns. With the emergence of 3D wallpapers, they seem to have regained their lost glory. Despite coming in various designs, the 3D wallpapers applied on a wall are dependent on the client’s tastes and desires.
