As I mentioned in my previous articles, interior design is a broad subject. It relies on other professions such as carpentry, masonry, painting, among others to make it whole. In this article, I will cover 3D decorative wall panels as an essential component in interior design and why you ought to consider them.
So what are 3D decorative wall panels?
Just as their name suggests, 3 Dimensional (3D) decorative wall panels are panels used on walls where they add texture and depth thereby generating amazing interior environments.
While some experts suggest that 3D wall panels are an evolution of traditional wallpapers, others look at them as innovation taking place in the interior design field. However, traditionally, they have been widely used for insulation and soundproofing rooms where music recording takes place.
When doing an interior design project, usually the client has their ideas that are unique only to them. Others usually have seen what they desire from a friend or a corporate environment. Others still might have browsed the internet or read a real estate magazine with current trends in the field and which they want to try. 3D wall panels could be used as an element of the interior design process to make a project look unique yet unsophisticated.
3D wall panels are made from various materials. For example, some are made from wood or MDF, others from Bamboo, others from aluminium, PVC plastic or from 3D plaster. While some of these materials are available locally, others are sourced from overseas. This explains why the prices of some panels are not client-friendly.
When making these wall panels, some are made by craftsmen others are made by mixing materials and chemicals then placing the mixture into moulds to cure or dry before the end product can be removed from the mould and placed on the wall.
The design of 3D wall panels is dependent on several factors. One of these factors is the moulds used to make them. The second factor is the material used. If for example, a client requires wooden panels, a carpenter will work on the panels in a carpentry shop. After selection of their desired material and having manufactured the required panels they could then be placed on the wall either using adhesive or screws.
There are various areas where 3D wall panels could be installed in a home. For example, in the living room of a home, they could be used as the focal point instead of decorative wall paint. They could also be used to decorate the living room chimney, the photo wall, corridors/ hallways, kitchen, shower depending on the client’s desires and overall project goal. Lastly, in order to bring out their true effect in interior environments, the use of light to focus on their patterns (shadow effect) comes in handy.
Besides being used in the interior design of a home, 3D wall panels could be used to decorate hotels & restaurants, corporate environments, night clubs, lodgings among others. Limits in use are only in the imagination of the interior designer and the client.
There are various advantages of installing 3D wall panels in the interiors of buildings. At the very top is they are used for decorative purposes. Other advantages include: they offer uniquely designed elements for interior environments, they make the interior space look aesthetically appealing, they are easy to install, are easy to clean, some are designed to act as firewalls, insulate excessive noise among others.
